Poster Facts

The market for antique posters has steadily risen over the years. Unlike contemporary art, it is not a speculative market, and there are no great surprises.

Quite simply, each year the number of collectors increases and the number of available posters decreases. Assuring their collectibility. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the poster made a significant mark.

The first ones were created in the mid 19th century in France as advertisements for new products. Many of the important art nouveau themes were employed in posters for art exhibitions, theatre productions and commercial products.

Some of the most famous artists during the art nouveau and art deco periods include Alphonse Mucha, Jules Cherét, Toulouse-Lautrec and A.M. Cassandre.
